Rewriting History
*I may have allowed for some artistic license in transcribing the exact verbiage, however the basic message has been left unaltered*
Scene: Kitchen - July 3rd. Just as Rich comes home from work...
Dad: Happy "We finally got rid of the Yanks Day!"
Son #1: What?
Dad (repeats) : Happy "We finally got rid of the Yanks Day!"
Son #1: I don't get it.
Dad: You do know what tomorrow is don't you?
Son #1: The Fourth of July.
Mom: And that's our Independence Day.
Son #1: I don't know what "Independence" means.
Mom: It means that's the day the day we became our own nation. "Independent" means you can do it on your own.
Dad: And before that, America was part of Britain. But we got so sick of the Yanks we decided to kick them out.
Son #1: But wasn't there a war?
Dad: Yes. We wanted to get rid of the Yanks, but they wanted to stay a part of the British Empire so we went to war. And the Brits won so the America had to leave.
Son #1 - looking confused: Really?
Mom: No, honey, America wanted to be free and July 4th is the day we gained our Independence.
Son #1, still looks confused.
Mom: So Son, who do you believe?
Son #1: I don't know....

The sad thing is, I can see it now. He'll be in History class learning about the Revolutionary War. He will tell his teacher the story his Dad told him and insist he's correct!
The boys and I are off to Michigan tomorrow for a few weeks. I'll try to update and post pictures of our trip.

Another Blonde Moment
We were driving by the local Irish Pub (that does not do very well) and Rich noticed the beer banners out front...
Rich: Look, they have Dos X's banners up. You think the Irish theme isn't going well so they're turning to an "Irish-Mexican Bar?"
Me: No, I think that's for Cinco de Mayo.
Rich: Oh! Of course! What date is that again?
I'm a bit confused because he already had one blond moment last year. He's not due for another one for at least 2 years.
Me: What? (a bit bewildered)
Rich: What's the date for Cinco de Mayo again? Is that coming up?
Me: Um, the 5th of May, you know Cinco de Mayo...
Okay, in his defense, he is from England and they don't celebrate it there -- although they are always looking for reasons to go to the pub so I'm a bit surprised... but there you go. Not me being blonde for a change!

Rich's Birthday and other stuff
On Thursday night Josh was in the "PE Show" at school. A few kids from each class were selected to go and show-off some of the things they'd been learning in P. E. this year.
Josh was about as far away from us as you can get, so I did not get any pictures. It was very crowded and the kids were all over the place in the gym.
Each "year" had a different song they did a little dance to then showed off some skill. First grade did a dance to "I Like To Move It" -- which was very cute. Then they demonstrated their ball handling. Josh's group's skill was soccer. They dribbled the ball and shot "goals" through their partner's legs. They also demonstrated passing and trapping. Of course Josh is a natural at this!
Friday was Rich's birthday.
I picked Josh up from school early and we headed over to our local grocery store to get some cake and balloons. They had fun trying to pick out one that Daddy would like. I had to nix the "Winnie the Pooh," "Lightening McQueen," "SpongeBob," and "Train" balloons. Finally, Josh picked out one that was appropriate -- it says, "Go CRAZY! It's your Birthday!"
Rich was able to get off work early and since it was a gorgeous day, we headed over to a local park for about an hour.
It was really nice to be outside in the fresh air! The boys were both tired from being up late the night before. I think the fresh air is so good for them, especially when they are tired. At the very least, it gives them a release and distraction so they're not getting cranky at home!
Then we took the boys to a local restaurant they like for dinner. Rich and I had dinner later at home. Then we came home, had cake and opened presents! The boys were quite worn out (as you can imagine) so they got off to bed early and Rich and I had a really yummy steak dinner!
Josh is going to a birthday party this afternoon at a roller skating rink -- that should be interesting -- and then he has a sleep-over at the "birthday boy's" house. I think he's going to be tired tomorrow too!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Love Thursday: The Anniversary Edition
And true to form, things did NOT go as planned... but at least Rich's work was not to blame this time!
My morning was great! At breakfast, before Josh went to school he whispered across the kitchen, "Hey Dad! After Danny Phantom, let's go get Mommy some flowers!!" Of course I heard. He "whispered" so long I think the guys in the space station heard him. But, Daddy told him to "shh!" and they put their heads together and came up with "a secret!"
Of course Josh had to tell Sam the "secret" and let's face it -- 2 year olds are not exactly Fort Knox when it comes to keeping "secrets!" Sam immediately ran to me and said, "Mommy! I have a secret to tell you!" I managed distract him long enough for him to forget... And that's not difficult either... "Hey, where's Thomas?" usually does the trick.
It was Sam's first day of school so I met a friend at a coffee shop and just gabbed the morning away until it was time to pick him up. It was refreshing to be without kids for a few hours. So that was nice.
We got a new HDTV last week and the satellite people were scheduled to come today between 1:00 - 5:00 to install the new HD equipment. They had a four hour window to get here. We made plans so we would be here for the four hour window. At 5:30 they called to say they were "on the way." Guess what time they showed up?
7:15!
We still had not eaten, we were waiting for them to leave so we could enjoy our evening. They left at 8:30 and not everything was done adequately, there was trash all over our drive this morning, the old dish was left on the drive, boxes all over, cigarette butts all over, the old dish bracket is still on the roof along with trash. Trash. On. The. Roof.! We were on the phone to the satellite company about 3 times last evening trying to get the stuff "set up." But we're good now and trying not to dwell on what idiots those guys were.
Anyway, I digress... Before the boys ate dinner, they ran out to Publix for "the surprise." When they came home, the boys were both holding on to some yellow roses for me -- they had to do it together! And according to Josh, they looked for tulips but couldn't find any! Awww... He knows they're my favorite! And, they bought a few slices of cheese cake (Publix has great cheese cake!).
And after they left, I made dinner and we had a nice evening -- on the phone to the satellite company for some of it -- we started watching a new DVD -- Hot Fuzz. Very funny, but it was getting late so we'll watch the rest on Friday or Saturday.
So, although the satellite ordeal put a bit of a damper on the evening, all three of the boys made it a great anniversary. The joy and wonder and excitement that Josh and Sam had were all I needed. The look on their faces when they gave me the flowers reflected all the love I have for them and their father, right back to me.
And I have a babysitter for Saturday so we can celebrate again!

Nine Years Later....

Happy Anniversary!

"That's okay honey, you can be pretty."
Also known as a blonde moment.
I do it all the time. For example, my brother-in-law told me he wanted to see the movie "Pearl Harbor" way back when it was first released. Me in my infinite "Mimi-ness" said, "Oh, what's that about?"
Well, last night we were doing a puzzle and Rich says, "How big is this? (looks at box) 20" x 26"... hmm... The 26" must be the big side."
Ya think?
I was so amused that he had this "Mimi-moment," and I was astute enough to catch him out on it!
Hee hee, I'm rubbing off on him!
