Summer Vacation, thus far

So, we’ve had a very busy 3 weeks!

So busy that I have not had any time to update the blog! This is what we’ve been up to the last 3 weeks!

It all started Father’s Day Weekend with a 5K race here in Kennesaw.

All 4 of us ran – Sam ran in the 1 Mile – and he did great! He came in 4th! Just missed a trophy! Rich, Josh and I ran the 5k.  Josh and I didn’t train and we took a long time. I met up with Josh at the 1 mile mark and he was ready to go home. We took our time running and walking the rest of the way. Rich did fantastic! He showed us all up and came in 2nd in his age group! But he paid for it! It took him 5 days to recover!

After the race, the boys had a birthday party at the local rock climbing gym. My legs were so tired they ached just watching the kids climb!

I think the boys were a bit tired too because they spent most of the time running around!

Then, the following week, the boys and I had Cub Scout Day Camp!

This was a fun, tiring, week! The boys did all sorts of activities to help them in their Cub Scouting!

I was the leader for Josh’s Webelos 2 Den. It was lots of fun, and a bit challenging, with a den full of 10 year olds! This is their last year as a camper at Cub Scout Camp. Next year, Josh will be a Boy Scout so he can be a Den Chief/Helper. Most of the boys were great – a few thought they were already a Den Chief and didn’t think they needed to listen and that the rules didn’t apply to them! But all in all, it was great.

This was Sam’s first year as a real camper (last year he was a Pixie). He had a different Den Leader so I don’t have as many pictures of him. He did lose a tooth while at Cub Scout Camp thought!

They both really enjoyed their time. Sam got to shoot a BB gun for the first time, and do archery. Josh shot BB guns well enough to get a certificate from the District.  Both were so excited to show their results to Grampa. I had to promise not to say anything until we could show him!

Then these last two weeks we’ve been up in Michigan at my parents’ house and sister’s cottage.

I have over 400 pictures so I won’t go through all of them.

Some highlights of Grandmother & Grampa’s house – lots of swimming in the pool, checking the Fairy Circle ten times every day, playing with the dogs, water balloon fights and spending time playing with Daddy!

We went to the zoo. The highlight was the Dinosaur Exhibit.

We also went fishing – Rich caught his first fish EVER! After fishing my Dad took all 3 boys shooting while my mom and I relaxed and read!

We went to Greenfield Village.

Spent time playing in the water fountain at the local mall

And we went to a 4th of July party (on July 2nd) that had amazing fireworks! Rich has those pictures on his account. If I can figure out how to get them, I’ll post them!

Then we spent 5 days at my sister’s cottage in Northwestern Michigan.

It was fantastic!

The kids went swimming, frog and turtle hunting, we went tubing and fishing some more! And then we did it all again!  We did go to Michigan Adventures one day – the kids loved that trip! Rich chickened out and stayed home relaxing and catching up with his sleep and books!

It was a great holiday and it was so good to have the kids together again!

While we had a great time and we were sad to leave our family behind, we have lots of happy memories and can’t wait to do it again!

  1. Wow! It does sound like you guys have had an eventful summer. It is SO HOT here that we've AVOIDED doing anything outside at all costs. Thankfully we have a membership to our community center which has an indoor pool so we're spending a LOT of time there. It's been a savior for us this summer.
