It's been a weird week. With Josh home sick on Monday, then no school Tuesday... my week's just been thrown off kilter!
On Tuesday night Rich and I stayed up and watched the election results. Of course, we had to. And I've been processing the results. It was a bit surreal. While I did not vote for Obama, watching the crowd react was surreal. And the significance of the occasion was not lost on me. I really felt like I was watching an historical moment.
On one hand, I don't agree with Obama's politics so I was disappointed. But on the other hand, I was proud at what we've accomplished as a nation. The turn out for this election was amazing, that so many of us exercised our right to vote is part of what makes this country great. And the passion in the election too. I don't think I've ever seen an election with so much hype and following!
I did watch McCain's concession speech and I was really moved by it. I thought he did a great job and I thought it really showed what a stand up guy he really is. Made me proud that I'd voted for him.
I had to substitute 3 year olds the next morning so I did not watch Obama's speech. But, I knew I'd be able to find it on the internet -- which I did. I thought he gave a good speech too. Very passionate, which proved he's got a gift for oration.
So, I wish Mr. Obama well in his new job -- after all, he is now my President and I really want him to do a great job. He's got a tough job ahead of him.
Moving on...
Like I said, Tuesday just threw my whole week off. And then the substituting -- which is lots of fun, plus it brings in a bit of extra cash -- also shifted my week. Now it's Friday!
We're getting ready for Sam's birthday next week. So this weekend I'm sure I'll be baking cookies or cup cakes for his class as well as making a birthday cake and putting the final touches on the party. I think Josh has his baseball party/trophy thing this weekend too... but I'm not 100% sure!
Now, I'm just waiting for my new dishwasher to be installed (insert happy dance here) and then off to bring Sam to gymanstics!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! And here's a nice fall picture that Josh drew at school for you all to enjoy...
Don't you think it's kind of sad how excited we get about appliances?! My Christmas list consists of a new vacuum and a new iron, and I know I'll be thrilled as can be if I get either one!
ReplyDeleteI am with you on the weird week. Sean was off Monday and Tuesday and with the time change (I just cant adjust) I feel like it's Thursday.
ReplyDeleteLike you, I voted for McCain, but I knew in my heart of hearts that Obama was going to win. For this reason, I did not watch anything on TV about the election on Tuesday. I did however catch parts of the speeches as they were replayed on Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteSubstituting 3 year olds? You are a brave woman. I once taught that age for Sunday School - I was much younger and proably in over my head, but it was a great learning ecperience!
Josh's picture is awesome! That's a "forget the fridge, we are geting this one framed" kind of artwork. :)
We too had a weird week, we had to put to rest our family dog. On Tuesday, no less, DD's first time ever voting....which she did with a patriotic heart.
ReplyDeleteLove the pic, and am glad you like substituting!
I think the speeches by both candidates were lovely and quite moving. As a high school English teacher, I'm going to teach the rhetoric behind both, which I think will be interesting for the kids. BTW, please don't forget Sx3 today...we have a VERY timely snap for ya!
ReplyDeleteIt is tough. I am conservative, so Obama was not my pick...still I want to be hopeful.
ReplyDeleteIt is historic and I will be on my knee a lot! :o)
I went for McCain as well. I also had the feeling Obama was the one who would win.
ReplyDeleteWe had a new dishwasher last Christmas, we always buy things for the house for christmas!!
