The Lies We Tell Our Kids...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Today marks the first day we can officially start singing Christmas Carols in our house.

We put away all the Christmas CD's and DVD's just after New Year and tell the kids we're not allowed to play them after January 6th.

We, meaning Rich, came up with "The Christmas Carol Police" -- they will come and give you a fine if they hear you singing Christmas Carols or watching Christmas TV shows after Jan 6th and before Thanksgiving.

Believe me, it's necessary. I can't tell you the number of times I've had to watch Mickey's Once (or Twice) Upon a Christmas -- and the number of times I've had to say "No, it's July." And, "No, we're not listening to Jingle Bells today, it's Easter."

Yesterday, the boys were all excited because today we could start listening to Christmas Carols -- which we did at 8:00 this morning -- and start watching Christmas TV shows and movies (they're watching Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas now).

I admit, "The Christmas Carol Police" is a convenient lie. But it works. It's going to be a long 4 weeks until Christmas!

So I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving. I'm counting my blessings today, and believe me I have many!

  1. Oh man, that is too funny. I'll have to remember that one. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your boys (including Rich)!

  2. Oh I'd have such a hard time living with you, lol. I love Christmas music and Christmas movies. I find myself singing them often. They are such happy songs.

But I also know I am among the minority here. Oh well

Enjoy the happiness for the next 4 weeks.

    Happy Thanksgiving

  3. Happy thanksgiving! My iTunes loves xmas songs, picks them all the time. I am thankful for playlists.

  4. Ha ha...Sam loves Jingle Bells and my parents ALWAYS play it for him in their car. That's what grandparents are for, though!

Hope you guys had a great turkey day!

  5. I LOVE this rule. The boys love to watch movies like Frosty the snowman and Rudolph year round.

  6. Oh boy, I'm not ready for Christmas songs yet!

  7. We "turn on" Christmas the day after Thanksgiving and turn it off on December 26th. My daughter's birthday is at the end of December, so we try to keep it separated. It's nice to know exactly when our season will begin and end too!

  8. That is so funny, hope you get through your four weeks!!

I have an award for you on my blog!

  9. Christmas music will be going non-stop in my house, at least thru New Years! I love the idea of the Christmas Carol got a giggle out of me! BTW, don't forget to tune in to Sx3 today...we've got the Holiday Spirit!

  10. I have been known to watch Christmas movies in July. Looks like the Christmas Carol Police are gonna be knocking on my door this summer if I keep that kind of behavior up.

Hope you had a nice holiday!

  11. Our rule - only between Thanksgiving and New Years, otherwise it would be mayhem!

  12. A few years back I had custody of my then 4 year old brother (yes my Dad gets around...but that's another story entirely!) anyway, Come February he was still signing "Jingle bells" and asking for Santa. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Yay! Comments! Thanks for letting me know you were here!
