My Middle and What I Intend To Do About It

Before Sam was born I decided I needed to lose some weight. I lost 30 pounds and managed to keep the weight off for quite some time.

The weight seems to be creeping back on. I’m not happy. My middle in growing.

The last two years have been a bit stressful and our schedules have been messed up. We didn’t know if Rich was going to lose his job (he didn’t, phew!) and with Rich’s schedule our meal times have been a bit… weird.

I’ve tried diets, I’ve tried working out. I can’t seem to lose weight right now. I’m ready for something a bit different. I love the Clean Eating Magazine and, while we already eat relatively clean, I would love to be “more” clean than we are. I’m hoping if I start to incorporate the changes gradually, my middle will become less.

A few years ago I discovered a local lady that sells Farmer’s Market Baskets. She makes a run down to the Atlanta Farmers Market and then sells the baskets of produce.  I was getting them rather regularly for about a year – maybe two – but for some reason I stopped getting them last year. I don’t remember why.

I decided to start up again. Baskets are collected on Thursdays and are $15 for the large “Traditional” basket.

This was today’s basket.

There are 4 ears of corn on the cob, 4 naval oranges, 2 tomatoes, 4 kiwi, a bunch of bananas, a cantaloupe, bag of baby carrots, mushrooms, cauliflower, a large zucchini, strawberries, 9 russett and hydroponic lettuce.

For $15!

She’s made some awesome changes in the last year. Now, you can buy a whole bunch of extras.

I picked up a 3lb bag of grapefruit for $3

And an avocado for 75 cents and 5 extra potatoes for 25 cents each.

All this….

For $20! Hopefully this will help me not only cut down on my grocery bill, but also cut down on my middle!

I’m also incorporating exercise into my life. I figured if I post it here, I have to do it, right?

Last year I decided to run a 5k.

I am not a runner. I have never been a runner.

But I decided to try and run a 5k anyway.

I found a program called Couch to 5K and I decided to do it and in October last year I ran my first 5k!

I have run two more since then and on Saturday I’m running another. The difference is I am so not prepared for Saturday’s race! It’s part of a local race “group” and I plan on running most of them (you get a cool t-shirt for completing 4 of the 6). So, I guess I will be back on the treadmill getting ready to run the races.

And that’s not all. For my birthday I got The Female Body Breakthrough by Rachel Cosgrove. So, I shall be working with weights this summer too.

Now if I told you I was going to be good and eat “right” and follow this exercise plan all summer, I’d be a liar.  I know myself and I know our plans for the summer. I want to have fun on vacation and not worry about what I’m eating (or not eating). The boys and I like to go on little day trips to museums, parks and other various outings.

So, what am I going to do?

I AM going to do is try and work out 3-4 times a week – either on the treadmill or doing weights while we’re at home.

I AM going to eat healthy and stay clean while we’re at home. And I plan on picking up Farmers Market Baskets every Thursday to help me!

I AM going to have a fun summer!
