Those Aren't Wrinkles, They're Laugh Lines!

Wrapped Emotions button

This week I'm trying something new. Since I have to post everyday in November for NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month), I thought I'd branch out a bit from the norm.

Melody over at Wrapped Emotions created this blog as a means to rediscover "her creative soul and encouraging others to do the same. 'We live in a world where people live without their hearts and don't even miss them.' I want to live with my heart."

Each week Melody puts out an artistic challenge that helps us rediscover our creative soul! I've been reading her blog for several weeks now and love the idea, but this is the first time I've taken part.

The challenge this week was to Re-create Your Face.

The instructions:

Hold your camera at arm's length and shoot a photo of your face.

This is me in Living Color! No make up and all!

Upload the photo to your computer and with whatever photo editing software you are using de-saturate it, convert it to black and white. Lighten the image if necessary, make sure the image isn't too dark. Print a copy.

This is me in Black & White. I like it without the color.

Now take your pencil and trace over it...over and over and over. Every feature, every curve and line...trace over it. This is you.

Okay, so I cheated and added some color.

My first impressions, were "Man I need a highlight and haircut!" LOL! That's why I used the yellow crayon! I also added color to my eyes -- I think they are my best feature -- the window to my soul! Haha! And my lips -- I don't know why -- I guess because I have "full" lips (when I was pregnant with Sam my sister called them my "Angelina Jolie Lips" because they really filled out!)

I don't think I look my age at all. I turned 40 this year. I don't smoke or sit out in the sun and when I do go out, I use sunscreen (years of living in Australia will do that to you). Turning 40 was a bit of a shock for me, but really, I've come to terms with it. It's just a number and I have 2 kids that keep me young!

I like the way I look now. I didn't always (high school especially), and sometimes the bags under my eyes get the better of me, but I think I'm beautiful. My dad told me everyday when I was growing up (and he still does) how beautiful I was (so I would believe it) and now I do. But looks aren't everything. It's what's inside that counts.

As I get older, I become more comfortable with who I am -- that's part of growing up I guess.

This was fun! And if you have time -- go check out Melody's blog and some of the other posts.

  1. Yay! I love that you like the way you look! I'm just starting to feel that way after years of beating myself up about my looks. I'm at an age now, where I realize how much time I've wasted worrying about stupid stuff like that.

  6. I love your photos! There is something about them that reminds me of Kate Blanchett!

Growing up I was never told that I was beautiful or even pretty, so when my husband remarks that way - I have a hard time believing it. Becoming more comfortable with my looks has increased over the years.

BTW, I Liked the black and white version of myself better too!

  7. Very cool Mimi! And you are beautiful, inside and out! How wonderful that your Dad told you that, and you in turn have a good image about yourself.

  8. Yeah, I think as we grow older we grow more comfortable in our own skin - both inside and out.
What a wonderful Dad you have to make a point to tell you how beautiful you are!

  10. Hey Mimi, glad you de-lurked and joined us. :)

You have what I call a face that glows with happiness, and someone who glows is beautiful. If you aren't happy then you fake it well. Your eyes are gorgeous.

Isn't it a blessing to grow comfortable with one's self, realizing what truly makes us happy in life?

    BTW, I'm in Georgia, too.

  15. Kids do keep you young. I like that. You've got a great smile and getting older isn't going to change that.

  16. For some reason I couldn't see your project image either. Weird.

I found it amazing that so many of us ended up being ok with our looks.
